My Journey...

After being sent home with 100% sick leave by my GP, I got time to recuperate. But this is not like a common ‘flu; the one you recover from after a few days in bed. I had been in this state for almost 2 years and it had got gradually worse. I was a mere shadow of my true self.

Somehow, I managed to find my inner spark towards wellness. Even with severe difficulties in concentrating, I managed to read up on CFS and study books about psychology. As I started to learn more about neuroplasticity, I already felt a small change. A friend of mine recommended reading about the lightning process, a training programme formed by Dr. Phil Parker. I knew immediately that this was what I needed in order to get well. After a long discussion with my partner, I decided to attend a course at the Phil Parker Institute in London, December 2017. This changed my life!

I gradually got better and eventually was able to go out for walks again. Before the course, just a trip to the grocery shop had to be planned days in advance. It is worth mentioning that I had relapses the first 6 months, and had I stopped the course after the 4th or 5th relapse, I would have ended up in the statistics where the LP did not work. It shows that continuity is extremely important. I was able to learn from these relapses and started noticing at an early stage if I was heading in the wrong direction.

Today, thankfully I’m well, but I still use the techniques I have learned, albeit more on autopilot. Most importantly, my life is back.

I have used a lot of time and energy and money to get well. Not all of it has worked. And what I have done in my case might not work for other people with the same diagnosis. However, my one advice is not to ever give up. You will find your way in the end.
